Primary Primary education 6 12 6 Education system in Honduras is structured similarly to the U.S. education system. Primary education is compulsory.
Middle Ciclo común (General High School) 12 15 3
Secondary Bachillerato (Academic Secondary Education) 15 18 2 2 to 3-year program. Students that are going to continue studying in the university usually get their bachillerato, which is a general arts and sciences education.
Secondary Carrera (Vocational Secondary Education) 15 18 2 2 to 3-year program. The most common carreras are usually perrito mercantil (accounting) and negocios (business).
Tertiary University First Level 3 3 to 4-year programs. Diploma/Certificate awarded: Bachillerato universitario or Licentiate (Licenciatura). The National Autonomous University of Honduras, founded in 1847, is the primary institution of higher learning.
Tertiary University Second Level The university usually does not offer master's or doctoral programs, although there are doctoral degrees in medicine, chemistry, and dental surgery.

The 6 years of Honduran primary school education are free, although less that 32% of pupils receive their educational grounding without repeating grades. These children represent only half of the original school entrants, and will have taken an average of 9.4 years to complete this phase.

Secondary Education

Vocational Education

The Honduran National Vocational Training Institute offers vocational training to the nation’s workers. Although independent, it networks with government and the business sector in order to contribute towards growth in national productivity.

Tertiary Education

Honduras EducationThere are 11 universities in the Honduras.These are a mixture of state, private and those with religious affiliations. Sadly, like secondary schools these are also only based in cities, and then just in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and Comayagüela. As a consequence, the vast majority of the country's young people are deprived of opportunities taken for granted in many places elsewhere.

Of these, the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana illustrated opposite enjoys the best reputation.
